Day 1 : El Alemin –Siwa Oasis
Enjoy a 3-day tour from Cairo to Siwa, departing early in the morning. Begin your exploration at El Alamein, visiting the war museum and the war cemetery. Continue to the German and Italian War Memorials, each with its unique significance. Lunch will be provided during the day. In the afternoon, witness the mesmerizing sunset at Fatnas Island in Birket Siwa.
As night falls, savor dinner at a local restaurant in Siwa. Your accommodation for the night is at the distinctive Ghaliet Ecolodge, nestled near Amoun Temple and Alexander the Great Oracle in Siwa Oasis. The ecolodge, surrounded by palm trees, offers a unique blend of nature, organic design, and health programs.
Day 2: Siwa and Camping in the desert
The day begins with breakfast, followed by a pick-up. The first stop is the Temple of Alexander the Great, also known as the Temple of the Oracle, where it’s believed that Alexander sought confirmation of his divine parentage. Next, explore Siwa Salt Lake with its unique floating properties and healing benefits. Be cautious while swimming to avoid discomfort, and choose the purest crystal lake for a refreshing experience.
Afterwards, we’ll visit Cleopatra’s bath, the Spring of the Sun, where legend has it that Cleopatra swam. Proceed to the temple of Umm Ubaydah or Amun temple, located near the Temple of the Oracle, offering historical insights. .
Next, savor a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, embark on a desert adventure in the Great Sand Sea, exploring sand dunes and engaging in sandboarding with a Jeep 4×4. Visit the hot and cold spring, Bir Waheed, followed by traditional Bedouin Tea at sunset. Spend the night in a desert camp, enjoying a BBQ dinner. Optionally, accommodations in Siwa’s Ecolodges are available instead of camping. .
Day 3: Siwa – Marsa Matrouh – Cairo
After enjoying breakfast at the camp, we’ll head back to Siwa Oasis to continue our tour. Our first stop is the Shali Fortress, built on a hill with a protective wall. This maze of mud-brick buildings served the oasis for nearly eight centuries, offering shelter to both people and animals. Constructed in the 13th century, the fortress was a central hub for Siwan life for over 800 years. Today, its mosque is still in use, and many homes have been restored or transformed into guesthouses.
Next, we’ll visit the Mountain of the Dead, located just north of Shali. Carved into the side of this conical mountain are tombs from the twenty-sixth Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods. One notable tomb is Si Amun’s, featuring beautiful depictions of the Egyptian pantheon and an exquisite painting of the goddess Nut beside a sycamore tree. .
After exploring Siwa, we’ll drive back to Cairo, passing through Marsa Matrouh for lunch. This coastal town on Egypt’s Mediterranean shore is known for its white sandy beaches and clear waters, believed to have been visited by Cleopatra. We’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, a seafood spot in Marsa Matrouh. Finally, we’ll return to Cairo.
